Going from strength to strength, the Rye Community Food and Wildlife Garden has generated its first harvest ….. of garlic and broad beans, writes Pip Al-Khafaji. Next up will be this summer’s crop of potatoes, with more chitted and waiting to be planted out. There is also a bed of various brassicas – purple sprouting broccoli, cabbage both red and white, and cauliflower – which will be ready for harvesting from September onwards. Feeling like joining in? The Garden, on Love Lane, is now open with access via the pedestrian gate to the Love Lane Allotments field. A regular working session is held most Saturdays, between 10am – 1pm, but for the rest of the week, people can come and simply enjoy the peace and serenity using the log seating under the ancient oak. Picnicking is also possible, but please remember to take your litter home with you!
