Rye Rugby Club’s quiz night on March 9 was a special fund-raiser for Helen Pierce who needed £350 sponsorship so she could run in the London Landmarks Half Marathon on March 25.
Our event was possibly going to be cancelled due to the cold weather as when club secretary Jeremy Nobbs went to the club on the previous Monday the kitchen and bar area were under water! We had over 10 split pipes and a blown tap. The club made a concerted effort and worked very hard to get everything ready for this quiz and the home game the next day. The club was  packed with quiz teams from the local area and from the Hastings area. I was the Quiz Master and the questions were written by my partner Tracey Winklmair.
In total there were 18 teams with an average of six people in each. We had eight rounds of 10 questions which were mainly general knowledge. but the titles of the rounds gave little clue as to the question matter.  There was a half time picture round, involving identifying London landmarks, which caught a few teams out. The last round was a music one – name the musical. We had everyone singing along and even had them  dancing to The Time Warp... A great evening was had by all, smiles all round. Helen held a raffle and with the entrance fee of £1 per person she raised her £350. The bar did well which will help the rugby club and we also sold a curry at half time.
This is a monthly event, usually the first Friday of each month. See Facebook for details.
