Cutting Camber's queues

The RNLI lifeguards will be back at Camber this year and the main car park there will be experimenting with ANR (Automatic Numberplate Recognition) to try to reduce the long queues of cars in Camber on the sunniest summer days, Rother District Councillor Lord Ampthill told Rye Town Council on Monday.
In a lengthy report he also said that CPE (Civil Parking Enforcement) , which will probably result in traffic wardens, was moving slowly forward, but probably would not happen before April 2020 as East Sussex County Council (ESCC) had to meet all the requirements of the Department of Transport before the proposal could be approved by Parliament, and the Parliamentary timetable was always very full.
ESCC leader, and local county councillor, Keith Glazier said the Rye Creative Centre in New Road (a former school owned by ESCC) would remain open despite charity ARRCC going into liquidation, and the resident artists had been given three-month leases for the time being. The council, which has social-care responsibilities, would also be keeping an eye on ARRCC users covered by social care.
He also drew the town council’s attention to planning applications on the town’s boundaries of which they might need to be aware.
Potholes were currently a major issue for him and ESCC, and the Town Steward was keeping him informed of problems. But those in the High Street were not deep enough to qualify for urgent action, he added.
