Rye hosted Glynde in their fourth league game of the season, in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera.
Rye captain Smeed won the toss and elected to bowl on a slightly damp wicket. This decision immediately brought success as Reece 3-18 and Rye Concepts Man of the Match Tobias Farrow 5-23 completely blew away Glynde to leave them 38-8 and, unlike the week before, Rye managed to finish the innings off without much resistance with Rhys-Jones 2-6 cleaning up the tail to leave just 48 needed for a third straight win.
Rye felt the chase should be very straight forward until Eaves (2-14) left Rye in a bit of bother at 9-3 but Seabrook (20) and Smeed (18*) took the team to victory with ease.
Rye travel to Bells Yew Green on Saturday looking to make it four league wins in a row, and maintain their lead at the top of Division 4 East, of the Sussex Cricket League.

Rye 2nd XI 192 – 6
Rye 2nds travelled to Glynde in search of their first win of the season. With Rye skipper Clifton winning the toss and electing to field first, both of Rye opening bowlers made early inroads as Spencer Sharkey (3-41) and Jamie Fielding (2-47) dismissed both Glynde openers for 0. Some rebuilding by Glynde’s middle order brought them back into the game. But some tidy bowling from skipper Clifton (3-28) and Martin Blincow (1-29) restricted Glynde to 205 all out. In the field wicket keeper Luke Payton gave another exhibition of excellent glove work, with the 6 colts in the team stopping and throwing with great skill, especially Harry Rhys Jones and Jack Keen.
With a target on the board Rye suffered an early blow as Hatter was bowled for just 6. Up stepped 15-year-old opener Luke Payton (96) to take the innings by the scruff of the neck with a knock that was full of maturity and control. Support from John Mackenzie (26) and Harry Rhys Jones (29) gave Rye every chance but the experience of Glynde’s bowlers just was enough to deny them (192-6) their first win of the season. Luke Payton batted throughout the innings, only to be run out off the final ball.
Rye’s 2nd XI continue to search for their first win of the season as they host Firle 1st XI on Saturday.
Rye 3rd XI 70
Little Common Ramblers 3rd XI 150
Rye third team hosted Little Common Ramblers thirds for their latest league fixture and on winning the toss elected to field first.
George Channon made the early break through for Rye and went on to clean bowl two further batsmen as he finished with figures of 3-45, this included opening batsmen Simon Catley (13). Craig Pierce bowled consistently tight lines as he ripped apart the visitor’s batting line up including Andy Crathern (21) as he finished the afternoon with figures of 6-39 from 15.3 overs. Ben Thwaites scored 49 for Little Common before he was dismissed by the returning Callum Haddaway (1-25), Jay Feast finished on 13 not out as Little Common were dismissed for 150.
In response Rye got off to a poor start as Finlay Jack (3-5) and Ben Thwaites (3-24) claimed the early wickets. Craig Pierce (21) and George Channon (19) were the only Rye batsmen to reach double figures with Jay Feast (1-13) and Jack Bidiss (1-7) dismissing them. The other Little Common wicket taker was Andy Bedford (1-17) as 10 man Rye were
dismissed for 70.
This Saturday the 1st XI travel to Bells Yew Green, the 2nds host Firle 1st in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn, and the 3rd Xl travel to Robertsbridge Thirds. On Sunday the Under 9s play away at Robertsbridge, there is an Inter Club Practice Match on Monday for U13s and U11s, and on Tuesday the U15s host Wye.
