The new Rye News

As Shakespeare said, the course of true love never did run smooth, and neither, it would seem, does the course of 21st century technology. Having tested our new format for weeks before going live, at the last moment technology, in the hands of our web hosts, failed us and we had to make a second attempt last week and our first new issue in the current format went out last Friday.

We hope you like what has been done. There are fewer stories on the front page which will work better with the mobile phones and tablets that we know many readers use to view the paper. There is still plenty of content on the inside pages though, and you can locate each category – news, living, culture etc. – by clicking on the menu bar at the top of every page.

The typeface is now larger and clearer – something many readers asked for – and the pictures, too are larger and better quality.

You will probably also start to see increased advertising – although not right in the middle of an article – and we will do our best to ensure that this is relevant to our readers. Advertising enables us to be delivered to you free, and businesses that wish to promote themselves through our pages will find it good value and effective.

Do let us know what you think of our new paper. It is run entirely by volunteers. Among them there is experience in writing and journalism and we are continually seeking to improve the service we give, so if you think you have a skill – writing, marketing, promoting – or anything else that you would like to contribute, do get in touch, we would love to hear from you.

  1. Thank you to all the volunteers at Rye News for bringing us ‘proper’ local news, unlike a certain local publication.
The new format is a great improvement, the links work well and it’s much easier to read on an iPad, your efforts are much appreciated
