May 2019 will see local elections for both town and district councils. All 38 seats on Rother District Council (RDC) will be up for grabs

For anyone considering standing for election to the district council, RDC are holding a pre-election event with current councillors who will outline their role and give you the opportunity to ask questions.

The event is being held at the Town Hall, Bexhill on Monday, November 19 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm, and will offer people the chance to speak to serving councillors and senior officers.  You will also be able to find out about the varied services RDC provides, the challenges it faces in the years ahead and the support councillors receive.

One of Rye’s two representatives will be presenting. Councillor Lord Ampthill was first elected in May 2007 and serves in cabinet, on the Licensing and General Purposes Committee and is the Member Training and Development Champion. Lord Ampthill, who is also up for re-election, says: “As a councillor, you are able to influence decisions and help shape the future of your local area and the district. It’s a very rewarding role and provides a great opportunity to gain experience, learn new skills and give something back to the community.” Rye’s second elected representative on RDC, and up for re-election, is Gennette Stevens.

People interested in attending the event are asked to show their interest by registering at here or emailing democraticservices@rother.gov.uk by Wednesday, November 14.
