Southern to answer to Rye

The MarshLink rail service has experienced significant service failures over the past six months so MLAG has now invited Southern to Rye to discuss recent performance at a meeting. And to look to the future.

MLAG (along with the other rail groups along the line with whom we have been collaborating – Hastings and Rother Rail User Alliance.) has been provided with information by Southern of cancellations and service delays and invited HRRUA to discuss with them, very openly, the underlying issues. Southern is now prepared to discuss some of those issues with a wider audience. The objective over time is to improve the railway service and MLAG trusts attendees will appreciate the opportunity provided.

It is to be expected that train users will have specific questions of their own so there will be time made available for a substantial Q&A session.

There are two other matters to report:

MLAG undertook a passenger survey starting in May, shortly after the current timetable was introduced. We have presented our findings to Amber Rudd and Huw Merriman (our local MPs) and to Southern and have been looking for an opportunity to present the results to members and will do so at this meeting;

At the last MLAG AGM in February, we scheduled an overview of the proposed Javelin project to bring the direct service to the MarshLink but time ran away with us. We trust this omission can be rectified at this meeting.

The meeting will take place on Thursday November 29 at Rye Town Hall starting at 7:15pm and we look forward to your participation.
