The Russian National Ballet presented a production of the Nutcracker Ballet at the White Rock, Hastings, on Wednesday, November 16. It is a delightful fairy tale with Tchaikovsky’s rousing music. The Christmas story is based on Hoffman’s ‘The Nutcracker and The King’ . A Nutcracker doll is given to a girl, Clara, by her godfather and it turns into a princely soldier. Their adventures see the prince and Clara combat the mouse king, latter’s costume/mask and ballet dance very convincing with its mouse movements.
In the second half they performed wonderful ballet with dancers in different costumes identifying the country they represented. Beautiful performances by all the cast. The White Rock is an interesting performance space offering events of many genres, well worth keeping an eye on.
