Although requiring a trip out of town for Rye residents, Porters Wine Bar at 56 High Street in Hastings Old Town is a quirky, intimate and friendly restaurant/pub which has live music on certain nights and good food. Last Wednesday, January 2, 2019, Liane Carroll was the singer (last seen at the Rye Jazz and Blues Festival) with a beautiful voice, accompanied on piano.
She also had two friends as guest singers, one of whom was her husband Roger Carey, himself a very accomplished musician and the current bassist with Steeleye Span, who performs in several Hastings venues.
The audience loved it and in the front room where Liane was placed it was standing-room only. There are two other rooms which are also pleasant and in the second area one could still hear the music. It’s a great venue and Liane makes it fun with her lively personality. It invites the listeners to interact with each other even though one doesn’t know each other. The next dates for live music are Wednesday and Thursday January 23 and 24 starting at 9pm, and Sunday, January 27 in the afternoon.
Details of artists, performance times and dates and any changes are on the Porters Wine Bar web site.
