You know what it can be like when your raffle ticket comes up: excitement, anticipation and then you’re handed something inappropriate or just plain dull. Well, that is just not going to happen at the Christmas party being hosted by Danielle Roberts in aid of The Oliver Curd Trust at The George in Rye on Friday December 12.
The generosity of local traders has to be seen to be believed – so much so that Rye News has compiled a list. And it’s still not complete as at least a further six prizes have been promised, with vouchers yet to be delivered.
As well as the raffle, there will be an auction. You can place bids in advance, but the fun will be in fighting it out to the last. Who would not want to bid for a three-course dinner for two with a bottle of wine, plus an overnight stay with breakfast in a boutique hotel? That’s what has been offered by the new owners of the recently refurbished Standard Inn in The Mint – despite being new to town and not having heard of Oliver and his charity. And for others who might not have: Oliver died aged just nine, from cancer. His parents and friends set up the trust to offer free holidays in fully equipped mobile homes to families with children with life-limiting illnesses and bereaved families who might not otherwise be able to have a holiday.
The raffle of course is just plain luck. Tickets are just £1 a strip of five, but check out these prizes:
