Tilling Green Residents Association is the first organisation in Rye to become dementia friends. As a member of the association and following training by the Alzheimer’s Society, I have become the dementia champion for Rye. The main responsibility is to deliver training to groups, shops, businesses and organisations who may want to become more dementia aware. Once you become a dementia friend you will gain a better understanding of the disorder, how it affects sufferers, their families and the impact you can make to their lives by reducing the stigma and changing your attitude. Currently, there are 800,000 people living with dementia in England and 2,220 of them live in Rother. Dementia friends are part of a government strategy funded by the Department of Health.
