Easter is a time for remembering the very soul of Christianity and for memories of our loved ones, too, as well as for the joys of Easter eggs and roast lamb. Such an important church festival is ideal for the arrangements of lilies, each one of which is purchased in memory of a loved one and arranged in time for the Easter Sunday service, in Grade-I listed St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Peasmarsh.
This year, new flower arrangers were ready to take on the pleasure of setting the beautiful lilies in their place, with lots of greenery and some additional white flowers to complement the four big arrangements. Mrs Angela Brassleay is pictured with one sited on the font and the other pictures are of the entrance and the ones by the pulpit and in the squint.
The church itself is so ancient, dating back to Norman times, and has overseen so much over the centuries, presiding as it does in peaceful Church Lane, running at the back of the busy main road and surrounded by its burial grounds and the fields and apple orchards. Its purpose of prayer, worship and reflection has not changed and the remembrance lilies are built into this tradition. The arrangers understood the thought and feeling behind each gift and hoped to do justice to the wonderful blooms.
