The 1st team of Icklesham Casuals produced an excellent performance in their final game of the season last Saturday, April 20.

The side went into the match against Division One runners-up Wadhurst United needing to win to secure 3rd place in the league, and looked to get off to a good start.

That is exactly what happened with Liam Sayer opening the scoring early on and then the floodgates opened. Steffan Davies whipped in a free-kick which was headed into his own net by a Wadhurst player with Joe Fraser making it 3-0 shortly after.

The Casuals did not ease up and kept the pressure on. Dave Pugh netted the first goal of his hat-trick when he volleyed home from a corner, with Danny Noakes giving Pugh competition for goal of the day when he wondered into box, pulled off a great drag back to beat two defenders before striking the ball past the Wadhurst keeper.

Pugh then scored from the penalty spot and Sayer beat the offside trap to net his second of the game to make the score 7-0 at half-time.

With the game won Icklesham tried to see out the second half but Wadhurst pulled a goal back through a penalty before Pugh completed his hat-trick to make the final score 8-1.

A great finish to what has been a good season following promotion last year.

The club would like to thank all those who been in running the two sides, the players and everyone who has supported the teams throughout the season.
