Rye Bonfire Society’s 2019 Annual Auction of Promises will be held at the Mermaid Inn, on Thursday May 16 from 7pm in The Tudor Room, with kind permission of Judith Blincow and her team. All proceeds support the 2019 Rye Bonfire Pageant; tickets are £5 to include a glass of wine.
Thanks to the generosity of John Ryan’s family, two very rare pictures will be open to bids on the evening. The first is Captain Pugwash with hand written text:
CAPTAIN PUGWASH
John Ryan
December 2004
The second is Cut-Throat Jake with handwritten text:
YOU NEVER COULD TRUST THAT RASCAL RYAN
ALL GOOD WISHES FROM CUT-THROAT JAKE
20 July ’99
And on the reverse is written: & apologies from John Ryan
In watercolour, ink and ball point pen on white card.
Printed text at base: “Gungarden Lodge, The Gungardens, Rye, E. Sussex TN31 7HH”
Size: 179mm height x 123mm wide, ie. between A5 and A6
Interest in these two is likely to be high!
In addition, amongst many other splendid items to follow, we have two very different framed pieces of artwork, one from our Vice President Prince Rosti Romanoff (left) and the up-and-coming Rye illustrator Oliver Brooks.
Rye Bonfire Society is very grateful for all businesses and individuals who have supported us with donations for the auction and we hope to see you all there for what promises to be a most memorable evening!
