Northiam Horticultural Society held its celebrated plant fair on May 5 in the village hall. An oasis of calm green space at 1:58pm became a heaving mass of excited people clutching bags and boxes at exactly 2pm, rushing into the hall to grab the best or most unusual plants before they were sold to a rival.

The array of plants at this sale never ceases to amaze. Year after year, the quality remains as high and the popularity continues to rise. By 2:10pm, the trestles had empty spaces and people were heading for their cars laden with plants and flowers.

The members of the Horticultural Society are to be congratulated on the variety and quality of the annuals, perennials and shrubs as well as herbs and vegetables plants on offer. Assisted by the students and gardeners at Great Dixter, this was a very busy afternoon for all the stallholders.
