A garden party is being held at Rye Community Garden on Monday July 8 to celebrate the Garden’s 5th birthday. This will be open not only to volunteers of the garden, but also to members of the local community in Rye.
Everyone is welcome to bring an item of food and drink to share in a pot-luck style picnic. There will also be a croquet game on the lawns and a gazebo, a wonderful chance to get the community together.
Venue: Rye Community garden, Love Lane, Rye
Time: 5pm – 7:30pm

Anna Pole, recently appointed as community garden coordinator, writes:
“If you were wanting to know a little about what we’ve been focusing on since I became coordinator: I’ve primarily been focused on recruiting new volunteers and have been leafleting locally around Rye in local businesses and community centres including Jempson’s and Rye Community Shop. I’ve also been getting in touch with local groups such as Dementia Alliance, Extinction Rebellion, and the monthly “Green Drinks” meet-ups by Transition Rye to find potential volunteers. And expanding our online presence on Facebook, Twitter, our website and free publications!

“At the garden we had a lovely ‘seed sowing workshop’ – planting loads of vegetables with local volunteers, weeding bucket loads of thistles and creating a new wooden veg planter with a wooden container recovered from the local tip! And I’m happy to say we have donated some of our produce to the Rye food bank located at the Baptist church.

“I am always keen to spread the word about the great opportunity at the garden for volunteers to get stuck into.

“We do hope to see  you at the garden, and have a chance to show off the hard work of the volunteers, sponsors, committee and everyone that has contributed in many ways to the garden over the years.”
