To celebrate its centenary, the Workers Educational Association (WEA), whose art classes are held at St Mary’s Community Centre, will be exhibiting works by artists from Rye and the surrounding area.
The exhibition will take place on Friday July 12 at the Sea Front Rooms in the White Rock Hotel, Hastings, from 11am to 5pm. As well as works of art created by WEA students there will be tutors on hand to explain what other courses are available, including classes on photography, gardening and ecology. And at 12 noon, tutor David Alfred will be giving a talk on adult education and social change over the past 100 years.
The Watercolour Drawing classes at St Mary’s are held between 2pm and 4pm each Wednesday afternoon under the tutelage of Judith Sillem. Last term there were students from Rye, Winchelsea, Sandhurst, Rye Hill, Peasmarsh, Pett and Rye Harbour. Although the term has finished, details of the next course, due to start in October, as well as further details about the work of the WEA and the variety of courses it runs, can be found at the website.
