The 90th Kent County Show at Detling last weekend, July 5, 6 and 7, maintained its annual reputation for bringing the farming and urban communities together, celebrating farming, the countryside and everything the county of Kent has to offer.
The same as it was 90 shows ago, the main event was the livestock competition, promoting the very best of south-east farming and the farmers who rear their sheep, cattle, goats, pigs and poultry, taking pride in ensuring their animals are among the best in their breed. And it was Claire Langrish from Pickney Bush Farm near Newchurch, who displayed a perfect example of this dedication, celebrating a clean sweep of the four classes she entered with her Romney sheep. Red prize cards adorned the sheep pen, along with the Reserve Breed Champion rosette.
The show retains an excellent reputation for equestrian competitions, with many classes providing qualifiers for the prestigious Horse of the Year Show in October. Top riders from across the country travel to compete in these classes while the Inter-Hunt Relay always draws a large and vociferous crowd cheering on the local teams. Not for the first time in recent years, the East Kent Hunt emerged victorious, just getting the better of the Essex with Farmers and Union Hunt in the final.
With blue skies and high temperatures, Kent County Show once again provided a family day out for everyone.
