Rye Town travelled to Tilekiln, Hastings on Saturday October 6, to play Peche Hill Select in ESFL League One. With a massive lack of referees this year we had a later kick off at 4pm.

Town went out looking for their first win of the season, they started strong and after five minutes Sam Hesmer was brought down in the box. Craig Pierce stepped up to take the penalty, 1-0. Rye continued to play well with lots of possession but just couldn’t seem to get the ball in the back of the net. In the 27th minute Peche Hill were awarded a penalty 1-1. Rye continued to battle well and at half time the score remained 1-1.

The second half started just as well as the first, strong with lots of possession but in the 59th minute Peche scored to make it 2-1. Rye were still dwelling on the second goal as four minutes later Peche went 3-1 up. Rye continued to battle hard and together, playing some great football along the way. In the 87th minute Rye got a well-deserved goal back-scored by Richard Hibbs. In the last minutes of the game Rye Town remained strong and should have got a third goal, but it wasn’t to be and the game finished 3-2 to Peche Hill Select.

The match sponsors for Rye were Dunes Bar & Restaurant, Camber.

Squad – Garman, Gilchrist, Henham (c), Monk, Pierce, Ball, Hesmer, Miltiadou, Barlow, Sayer, George. Subs – Davey, Hibbs, Butchers.

The Yew Tree Stone MoM this week went to Sam Hesmer and Milton Miltiadou for their continued hard work in midfield. Very strong performances from both of them.

Next week the team’s run of Cup games begins when they travel to Tilekiln again to play Rock A Nore in the Hastings FA Junior Cup, kick off 2:30pm. We have Martin Brain and Shane Ridgers returning. Unfortunately Rob Levett is out for six weeks with a groin injury, we wish him a speedy recovery.
