Rye Town have not had the best of starts to the season with no points won in the first five games. Every week some fantastic football is played but we haven’t been able to get the ball into the back of the net.

Last week Town played Herstmonceux at home with what should have been a comfortable win, but drew the game 3-3 and earned the first point of the season with goals being scored.

This week the team travelled to Bexhill Road to play top of the league Old Hastonians. With some key players missing but some new faces added, it was uncertain how this game was going to go.

The game started well, playing good football all over the pitch and after four minutes Town was 1-0 up after a goal from Liam Sayer. The team continued strongly with another goal after 22 minutes. 2-0 up. Just before half time Sam Hesmer scored making it 3-0.

Old Hastonians put on the pressure for a while as the teams came back on to the pitch for the second half, but Town kept the score at 3-0, and used some of the subs to provide some fresh legs – new signing Jordan Kilsby for Carl Davey in defence and Joe Hanny for George Ball. After not many touches of the ball Hanny made it 4-0. Shortly followed by a goal from 16 year old William Brown making it 5-0.

An amazing all round team performance which earned Rye Town its first three points of the season, hopefully this is onwards and upwards from now.

This week’s Yew Tree Stone Man of the Match given by referee Ross Simmonds was Craig Pierce.
