Winchelsea’s windows light up for Christmas with the annual fundraising show displays from Friday December 13, to New Year’s Eve, between 4:30pm and 8:30pm daily.
There will be 25 beautifully decorated windows to see and this year any funds raised will go to the Conquest Hospital’s CT scanner appeal.
Maps (£1) to locate all the windows, handmade badges £2 and Christmas cards (£4 for a pack of five depicting Winchelsea scenes) are available from the Farm Kitchen and the New Inn.
And, also this Friday December 13 in Winchelsea, the Friends of the Ancient Monuments and the Museum are holding their annual carols in the Court Hall with doors open from 6:30pm for a 7pm start.
Enjoy some hearty singing to bring on the Christmas spirit. All are welcome and entry is free.
Beckley
Saturday, December 14, sees Beckley’s last Farmers Market before Christmas in the village hall from 10pm to 12 noon with a variety of local producers, a coffee shop and breakfast.
However villagers also have a chore in mind for the weekend which may affect many other places. Hedges may need cutting back where they are over-growing and blocking footpaths or, indeed, pavements as winter weather poses enough problems without additional obstacles.
But Beckley, possibly like other places, is also looking well ahead into the New Year and the Bank Holiday on Friday May 8 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) day.
Activities already in the planning stage include a tea dance, with 1940s style clothing if it can be found, as well as possibly a May King and Queen and maypole dancing.
Iden is celebrating Christmas on Thursday December 19 at 10:30am with carol singing in the Old Hall followed by mince pies, while Playden has a Christmas Carol service in St Michael’s on December 22 at 3pm with mulled wine and refreshments after.
And at Christmas we should not forget those who may be in hospital, and nearby in Playden, the Rye, Winchelsea and District Memorial Hospital is always looking for volunteers to help out. Ring Katie, Hospital Secretary, on 01797 223810 if you can help.
Northiam
This month’s Village Hall Coffee Morning has been moved back to Friday December 13, and thoughts may be turning to Northiam Conservation Society’s showing of a singalong version of the film “Grease” on Saturday January 18.
Fancy dress is entirely optional and all the words will come up on the screen. Tickets are £7.50 for adults and £4 for children and are available by contacting northiamconservation@gmail.com or call 01797 252526.

The village is busy with the Film Club showing “Fishermen’s Friends” on Friday, December 13 at 7:30pm, the Hall of Crafts and Table Sale tomorrow Saturday from 11am to 5pm, and Sunday’s Attic and Collectors’ Fair 10am until 2pm
