The annual town meeting will be held this year on Wednesday, March 4 in Tilling Green Community Centre in Mason Road, Rye from 6:30pm for registration for a 7pm start.
The mayor will report on town council activities in the past year and a speaker is expected to report on the future of the Heritage Centre on Strand Quay which is to be run from April by a charity which is now officially registered.
The town council has supported the loss making centre for a number of years, but decided last year that it could not afford to subsidise it any longer.
However the tourist information activities formerly carried on at the Heritage Centre will continue to be run by the council from the town hall in Market Street, and the council offices are currently being re-organised to accommodate this from April.
The annual town meeting is a gathering of Rye Parish local government electors open to the press and public and is usually attended by the local Rother district councillors and the East Sussex county councillor.
There will be refreshments, raising funds for local charity Encompass Care, and opportunities to raise questions and discuss issues with all your local councillors – town, district and county.
As a five week period of road works affecting the area round the railway bridge at the bottom of Rye Hill potentially affecting many residents will have just started (from March 2 until April 3) this may be prove to be one of the topics raised.
The introduction of civil parking enforcement (CPE) may also be an issue of concern, along with various planning issues, and a lot of questions are usually asked at this annual event.
