Body found, but suspect released

Coming through Appledore last Saturday, a temporary diversion had been put in place as the Military Road was cordoned off by police and closed. A dead body, believed to be of a man in his 40s had been discovererd at around 4:28pm on Saturday.

Military Road in Appledore was temporarily closed while police investigated.

A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder by officers from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate but, following enquiries and results of a post mortem investigation, the death is now being treated as accidental, and the man who was arrested on suspicion of murder has been released under investigation.

Formal identification of the victim has taken place and the man’s next of kin has been informed.
