Icklesham Parish Council contracted Andi Rivett of Rock Channel Marine to take down the mast at Rye Harbour on Wednesday, June 10. After a site visit to assess the situation, with the aid of Coussens Cranes, he was hoisted many metres into the air to attach the strops and make safe its supporting cables. The mast came down with no problems and was watched by a number of bystanders.

Now that it is accessible, a full survey will be conducted of the mast to see if it is salvageable. Andi, who is also a Rye town councillor said: “I’m really grateful to the parish clerk at Ickelsham for all her help and support in making this happen. If we can repair it and if it’s safe to do so, we will do our utmost to get it back up again.”
