Hastings and Rye MP Sally-Ann Hart has visited St Leonards Makers at their hub at St Anne’s Church, Hollington and was impressed with and appreciated their work and achievements.

St Leonards Makers have made and donated fabric masks to the Conquest Hospital, Bexhill Hospital and Rye Hospital, with 400 a week to Rye alone, on a weekly basis for outpatients or visitors who do not have a mask. These masks save the precious PPE for the staff working in the hospitals and have the added bonus of being re-usable, washable and result in less plastic use.

Members of the group have spotted the masks being worn again by recipients in local shops. To date over 10,000 masks have been made and delivered. Other organisations who have received donated masks include Surviving the Streets, The Food Bank, Pett Inshore Lifeboat, St Michael’s Hospice and A1 Carers

We still need fabric, duvet covers, sheets, pillowcases (a pillowcase makes four or five masks) and if anyone has a sewing machine, or overlocker that is no longer used or needed we would love to have it for the hub or even on a loan basis. If you can help please contact Vivienne on 07484 288874 or Dawn on 07774 423148 and we will arrange to collect.
