Don’t give up on the Kino

Sadly, the much loved Kino cinema in Rye’s Lion Street will not re-open for Christmas and probably not until sometime in January 2021, depending on government’s guidelines in the New Year. This is a blow for cinema lovers, but more so for the staff as it creates great uncertainty for now and the future.

The staff worked so hard for the re-opening after the last lockdown to make it a safe environment in the cafe and inside the cinemas where smaller audiences have enjoyed films as well as the streaming of theatre -Uncle Vanya (by Chekhov) in particular was brilliant and the best performance of the play this reporter has experienced.

While the cinema has had to close, the local craft group was able to use St Mary’s community centre next to the Kino to show off a large variety of their beautiful home made items and, just to remind locals and visitors, the craft fair will be open again on Saturdays, December 12 and 19 between 10am and 4pm.

  1. Look forward to it re-opening. It’s a great and valuable resource for Rye, culturally and socially. My children have enjoyed many a Kids’ Club movie there, and we’re greatly missing the entertainment, the hot chocolate and the lovely staff. See you on the other side…
