Weeks in the planning, six hours of first-class family fun will take place this Saturday and Sunday from 6pm to 9pm. I spoke to organiser, Arabella Ansar of A Rye Good Time, and I asked for her tips for anybody wanting to get the most out of this very special community event. Here’s her top five:
- Plan your route. Over 100 participants are spread out from the Hub on the Hill to Valley Park so look on it as a treasure hunt and do make sure you dress for the weather. (Remember your masks too.)
- On Saturday, check out the wonderful musicians. The Violet Jive have really grasped the windows theme and they’ll be performing in the window of Rye Shoes. Look out too for Tommy Ludford and Phil Trainor, our wandering minstrels extraordinaire.
- Just enjoy the spectacle. Every display is a work of art and Rye Heritage Centre can boast three of them by local artists, Carol Macdonald, Kathleen Loughton-Mead and James Tomlinson. James is making a live action piece over the course of the two evenings and it promises to be both dynamic and visually compelling. Not to be missed!
- Support Rye businesses if you can. Most of the High Street shops will stay open on Saturday evening. Bring your contactless card and shop for Rye!
- We all know the rules for living in late 2020 but do re-familiarise yourself. Sunday evening could be a quieter experience of A Rye Good Window Wanderland. You’ll know what works best for you. Please don’t congregate. Think of a busy art gallery, where you’ll happily wait a turn to see the masterpiece. Remember: Hands. Space, Face. Enjoy it!
