To celebrate the launch of the Rye Society of Artists’ (RSA) new website, Rye News continues to profile one of their artists each week – including links to their website and social media accounts so you can keep up-to-date on their activities.

You can view some of the RSA member’s work at their Spring Exhibition, entitled “There will be Growth in Spring”, at Rye Art Gallery from April 12, 2021. In addition, the RSA will be hosting their 70th Anniversary summer show later in 2021.

This week, the artist in focus is Brenda Hartill

Brenda Hartill was based in London for many years, being a member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers. She moved her studio to Sussex in 2004 where she paints and prints in her ancient Oast House.

Her speciality is collagraph and etching, and more recently her embossed paintings. Natural growth mineral forms and erosion are her inspiration, and she uses gold and silver leaf in her richly textured, glowing works.

You can see more of Brenda’s work on her website www.brendahartill.com and on the RSA website.

  1. Brenda Hartill is a great artist, it’s as simple as that – and we are so lucky, to have her in our community – and I and Marie are so lucky to have her as our dear friend.
