A celebration of nature

To celebrate the launch of the Rye Society of Artists’ (RSA) new website, Rye News continues to profile one of their artists each week – including links to their website and social media accounts so you can keep up-to-date on their activities.

You will also be able to view some of the RSA member’s work at their 70th anniversary summer show later in 2021, date to be confirmed.

This week, the artist in focus is Annie Soudain.

Annie’s vigorous and colourful linoprints often feature the plants, birds and landscapes of her local area, the easternmost corner of East Sussex. She uses a variety of techniques, one of her favourites being the reduction method, where the entire design together with all the colours is built up through taking repeated impressions from a single block.

All her work is very obviously a celebration of nature and her deep enjoyment and understanding of form and pattern help us to see the natural world more clearly. Much of her work features landscapes from Fairlight, Pett Level, Rye Harbour and Romney Marsh.

You can see more of Annie’s work on Instagram #anniesoudain, and on her website www.anniesoudain.co.uk and the RSA website
