In its 50th anniversary year, taking place from September 10-26, Rye Arts Festival has announced the release of some ‘Early Bird’ tickets for selected events.

Tickets for the eight selected events – including classical and contemporary music, literary talks and a participatory whodunnit – went on sale on 1st July for members and will be available to the general public from Sunday, July 4.

Headline events include Errol Linton’s Blues Vibe, with a gig at the Rye Community Centre on Saturday, September 11. The band do what they say they are – blues! But lead singer and harmonica player Errol is never far from his Jamaican heritage and so the blues are infused with reggae for a cool and distinctive sound.

Meanwhile on Thursday, September 16 at 7pm Gerard Logan brings his one-man show Night Terrors: The Ghost Stories of EF Benson to the Rye Community Centre. And Rye was home to the author who wrote the Mapp and Lucia series of humorous novels. But EF Benson had another side – a brilliant writer of spine-tingling spooky stories! And Gerard is a masterful storyteller, taking the audience into a dark and sinister world of the unexpected… and terror!

And when it comes to the full classical music programme it is a delight to welcome the pianist Martin Roscoe back to the festival. For those who have heard Martin play he needs no introduction, but for those who don’t know him, he really is an outstanding performer – both as a soloist and chamber musician. And he is bringing an all-Beethoven programme, on Saturday, September 18, as a slightly delayed celebration of Beethoven’s 250th anniversary.

John Case, festival director, says: “As the safety of our audience, volunteers and artistes is paramount, in July we are only releasing the number of tickets that meet the socially distanced capacities of the venues.

“We plan to only increase the total number of tickets available for all events as and when the government changes guidelines for safe capacities.

“We are sure that our audience will understand that we have to adjust procedures due to the unprecedented circumstances, but we look forward to seeing you at what promises to be a full and very exciting 50th anniversary programme of what is one of the south’s biggest and best multi-arts festivals!”
