The Rye Jazz Festival is delighted to announce that it will be presenting free live music events in Rye, at various locations within the town, to celebrate the long-awaited return of live music over the August bank holiday weekend.

After much hard work the festival has managed to secure both funding and all the necessary permissions to present fabulous performances outside the Buttermarket and outside the Kino cinema from 28 to 30 August.

These events will be extremely carefully managed and will be socially distanced, with a limited audience capacity in accordance with the latest government guidelines. The festival’s priority is for the safety of our audiences, musicians, and our superb team of volunteers. We ask that all of those attending these free events to be mindful and respectful of others whilst we celebrate and enjoy the return of live music.

There will also be a road closure in place to ensure safety for everyone and you can expect to hear the absolute best blues, roots, jazz, soul, and contemporary music from both established and emerging musical talent. The festival is immensely proud to be supporting musicians once again. The festival is also delighted to be working with our charity partners ‘The Music Well’ who do such amazing work with therapy and wellbeing through the power of music.

Announcements of who will be performing where and when will be made in the coming days. Please see the festival website for all these details. The festival would like to acknowledge the support and generosity of its private patrons, the Rye Town Council for the use of the Buttermarket and Kino Cinema and Rother District Council for both licensing and funding. We also thank the community lottery fund for their invaluable support and the many local sponsors as follows that have enabled the return of live music this year.

The Rye Retreat, Anderson Hacking Estate Agents, Wilson, Wilson & Hancock Opticians, Mayfield Sussex Hop Gin, Reeds Rains Estate Agents, the Cinque Ports, Rye, RER Project Management, WS Wright Ltd, Herington Solicitors, The Mermaid Inn, Bramley & Teal Holiday Cottages, Parker Building Supplies, Phillips & Stubbs Estate Agents, Country Property Group and Green Insurance Group.

There will also be live music performances at the Cinque Ports Pub, Brewery Yard Club, Ship Inn and at the Kings Head Inn. Please continue to support the festival and the return of live music. The festival will need volunteers to help marshal the bands and the audiences. More details are here.

Paul Carrack will be performing at the De la Warr Pavilion

Unfortunately, the festival has been unable to present any headline concerts at St Mary’s church this year due to Covid-19. The festival is, however, presenting socially distanced and limited capacity outdoor headline concerts on the beachside lawns of the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill from Thursday 26 to Monday 30 August. These concerts are to celebrate the best of British music at the great British seaside and an array of world class artistes performing include Paul Carrack, Gabrielle, Incognito, Courtney Pine, Rumer, Mica Paris, the Kingdom Choir, Ian Shaw, and Liane Carroll

The festival has arranged two-way coach transport from Rye to the De La Warr Pavilion on each of the days for those that have purchased tickets and for those that would like to attend.
