Last week Rye enjoyed a wonderful week of cricket, and some sunshine. The Monday fixture David Dee XI v Ian Addy XI fell victim to the weather, but has been rearranged for Monday, August 30. On Tuesday, Rye hosted the MCC in a bi-annual fixture that has run since 2003. Rye hosted 65 people for lunch, who enjoyed watching the home team threaten an upset.
Rye reduced the MCC to 105-6 at lunch. Then mid-afternoon the MCC were 140-9, but the last pair rallied the innings as they declared on 205-9. Rye were positive in the hunt and passed 100 with only 3 wickets down but then faltered, although runs continued to come. With 9 overs left, 45 runs were required, but Rye had been by then dismissed for 160. It was an enjoyable day and Rye look forward to welcoming the MCC again in 2023 as part of celebrations for the Cricket Club’s 270th Season.
On Wednesday, Rye lost to Linden Park by 4 wickets and on Thursday the fixture against Mersham Le Hatch was washed away shortly after tea.
The Juniors joined in the fun with a softball cricket camp on Wednesday – Friday mornings, attended by 35 young people, part funded by an ECB Inspired To Play Grant. On Friday afternoon the Cricket Dynamos Group hosted Robertsbridge in a match, whilst the All Stars Group enjoyed their own game. This was followed by a presentation evening and barbecue for parents and children.
The week was highly successful for the club and plans are already being drawn up for the 2022 cricket week.
The club is hosting a hardball cricket camp for 9-13 year olds on August 17 and 18, 10am – 3pm, cost £40. There are a few spaces available. To book a space contact Martin Blincow on blincsfamily@aol.com.
