You have until 5pm on Monday, September 27 if you live in Rother and want to have your say on the proposed changes to the council tax reduction (CTR) scheme.
The planned changes, as part of the consultation process, aim to improve access to the scheme for self-employed people who are also carers and for those self employed residents who are registered disabled.
Councillor Kevin Dixon, portfolio holder for finance and performance management at Rother District Council said “ We are conscious that our existing council tax reduction scheme does not sufficiently help those self-employed residents who are not able to work full time and in particular where they are carers or where they are disabled.
“We are keen to ensure as many people as possible can access this support and believe the proposed changes will help us address the current imbalance”. He goes on to say, “I would encourage residents to take part in the consultation so they can let us know their views”
Under the proposals, the minimum level of income the council estimates a resident earns when assessing entitlement would be reduced to ensure households where full-time work is not possible, are not disadvantaged.
After the consultation period the feedback will be analysed and used to develop the final proposal when it is hoped that by November/December 2021 there will be cabinet and full council approval.
You can have your say by responding to the online survey at https://www.rother.gov.uk/ctrs2021 or you can email your comments via consultations@rother.gov.uk or write in to Consultations (CTRS21) Programme Office and Policy Team, Rother District Council, Town Hall, Bexhill on Sea, TN39 3JX.
