Glitz and glamour were the themes of this year’s flower show in Pett. The Yiddish term “glitz” means glitter, from the German root glitzern, sparkle or glittering. For most of us our lives have lacked sparkle and glitz for over eighteen months, so it was especially uplifting to see so many people taking part to lift the spirits of the community.
Over 30 stunning arrangements were on display at the weekend in St Mary & St Peter Church, co-ordinated by the village flower show group. ‘Oscars’, ‘Casino Nights’, ‘Venetian Masked Balls’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ were among the titles of the glitzy arrangements.
Cathy Norris, chair of the group said “It was lovely to see so many people through the door despite the awful weather. It was just what the village needed after the last 18 months.”
Gill Plank commented “The displays, as always, were creative, and demonstrated the amazing skills of the arrangers. We also need to thank the tea team who provided the most delicious refreshments throughout the two days.”
John Case, churchwarden, commented “The Pett church flower show is a great tradition stretching back many years, and we were delighted to welcome so many people over the weekend who just enjoyed looking at the fabulous floral displays. Thanks must go to our local MP, Sally-Ann Hart, for supporting the flower show – she was lucky enough to win a raffle prize! We are also fortunate to have a great ambassador for the church in Andrew Blackman, newly appointed Lord Lieutenant for East Sussex, who also happens to be a member of the parochial church council for the churches in Pett and Pett Level.”
So, despite the awful weather, the flower show team brought some much-needed glitz and glamour and razzmatazz to Pett Level and raised £2,000 in the process.
