On Friday, November 4 the Sinden Theatre, located within the grounds of Homewood School, in the heart of the Weald in Tenterden, opened the doors to ‘The Jerseys’, a fantastic live tribute band for Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons and the smash hit musical ‘Jersey Boys’, bringing the music back to life.
The Sinden Theatre started in 2004 and is named after its patron, actor/performer and Wittersham resident, the late Donald Sinden CBE (1923-2014). The English actor extraordinaire achieved early fame as a Rank Organisation action film star in the 1950s. (Doctor in the House, The Cruel Sea) and later acted in theatre with the Royal Shakespeare Society (Othello). He had a big presence, on and off stage, his voice could be powerfully vocal, tragic, moving and also extremely funny. In his later years he often visited Rye and people were lucky to meet him on several occasions at drinks, supporting the arts, entertaining the audience with his jokes. Back to the evening of The Jerseys, a young vibrant and talented ensemble being a guaranteed hit with audiences of all ages. Their show wows fans with their harmonies, past or present, as enduring performers of the 20th century. They were also very accommodating at the end of the concert, responding to the delight of people dancing to sing more songs and once in the foyer allowing everyone to take photos with them.
