Folkestone and Hythe District Council (FHDC) are proposing a new beachside destination at Coast Drive car park at Littlestone in what they hope will prove a boost to the local economy.

The aim is to repeat the success of the renovation of the beach chalets along Marine Walk, Folkestone, which have hugely improved the attractiveness of that part of the beachfront.

The Littlestone project will include building 108 beach chalets and a new visitor hub. The hub will have information about the area’s wildlife, attractions, and history, so visitors can both enjoy and care for the nearby sites of special scientific interest.

Environmental measures will include boardwalks and fencing to facilitate foot, wheelchair, and buggy access to the beach and chalets while guiding visitors away from sensitive habitats. The creation of new site-appropriate habitats is proposed, while environmental and heritage interpretation, with conservation activities for both local people and visitors, will be led by the Romney Marsh Countryside Partnership.

There will be formalised car parking for around 75 cars with EV charging points and disabled bays

FHDC is asking for local residents’ views on the proposals and they have until November 30, 2021, to submit their views.
