The friends of Rye Harbour Nature Reserve have been working with the management team at the Discovery Centre to create a new focal point for local artists within the building.
Morgan Greenhalf, who co-runs the Avocet Gallery with her husband Peter in Harbour Road, approached local artist James Tomlinson and asked him to help build an ‘art wall’ for the centre. The aim is to celebrate the work of local professional and skilled amateur artists.
The wall has been carefully designed so it doesn’t affect the wood cladding of the centre. It provides a well-lit hanging space for artwork and will feature inspiring nature-themed art throughout the year.
The new space has opened with a display of work from artist Robert Greenhalf, who designed the Plover wall in the discovery centre, which represents all the people who donated to the “Buy a Bird” scheme which helped finance the building of the centre.
Robert has a new book out, Tidelines, which is available from the Discovery Centre shop.
James Tomlinson will become the third artist to display in the new space, after friend’s chairman, Cliff Dean and reserve manager Barry Yates.
