Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) suggests that the number of people infected with Covid in the UK is showing signs of plateauing. This follows the surge in previous weeks driven by the more transmissible version of Omicron, BA.2 and the dropping of Covid restrictions.
Locally, between April 2-8, 427 people had a confirmed positive test result, a decrease of nearly 40% on the previous seven days.
Spring booster jabs
There is an offer of either Pfizer or Moderna vaccine spring booster to those aged 75 and over or are immunosuppressed. Patients in this category are receiving invitations by text or letter, but there is no need to wait. If it is six months since the last jab then patients can book online or by telephoning 119.
Ages five to 11
Children can get a first dose of the vaccine from the day they turn five.
Most children can get a second dose from 12 weeks after they have had their first dose. Guidance is available online.
Belated Christmas event
On Saturday, volunteers held a delayed Christmas event at the Rye centre. In bright spring sunshine, around 50 volunteers came together with friends and relatives to enjoy a delicious Chennai meal provided by caterers organised by Hardik, Ankit and Tejas from Clarity Chemists.
Volunteers made a presentation of a framed commemorative poem to the Clarity Chemist team. The mayor of Rye, Councillor Rebekah Gilbert and leader of East Sussex County Council, Councillor Keith Glazier both spoke enthusiastically about the contribution that the centre had made to the vaccination effort in the eastern part of East Sussex.

The vaccination centre at Tilling Green Community Centre is provided by Clarity Chemists, supported by trained vaccinators and community volunteers.
