Last Saturday, St George’s Day, saw a small crowd gather at St Mary’s church, Udimore for the blessing of two new flags, the Union Jack and the flag of St George, sponsored by the Friends of St Mary’s.

Father Jim Hobbs blesses the new flags before hoisting them above St. Mary’s church, Udimore

It has been some years since flags flew from the tower of St Mary’s but after a short ceremony, Father Jim Hobbs, standing in for Father Owen, hoisted the flag of St George alongside a Ukrainian flag, showing support and solidarity for the people of Ukraine and their struggle against Russian forces.

There is nothing worse than a droopy flag, and in the face of a strong northeast breeze,  two flags flew proudly above the tower of St Mary’s once more.
