On Sunday there was a series of lunches and street parties around Rye to celebrate the “Big Lunch” initiative taking place across the nation.
In the Conduit Street Community Centre, 100 people sat down to a two-course meal to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Chris Emson and her team of volunteers put together a delicious lunch of ham and beef salad followed by meringue, strawberries and coffee.
Entertainment was provided by Rye Film Club which showed video of earlier royal jubilees.
Mayor Andi Rivett read out a letter from her Majesty wishing all an enjoyable lunch and thanking everyone for 70 glorious years.
The afternoon was completed with flag-waving and singing lead by Andi Rivett and Mayoress Councillor Rebekah Gilbert, with some old favourites including Rule Britannia, Jerusalem, and a rousing chorus of Sussex by the Sea.
Sincere thanks were given to all those who had decorated and arranged the centre to make the event possible.
A toast to her Majesty and the singing of God Save The Queen provided a glorious finish to an historical weekend.
