On Tuesday, August 14, Rye Castle Museum held its children’s summer craft afternoon at East Street. It was very well attended with around 20 children eagerly taking part and enjoying the three activities on offer: creating a colourful jesters hat from card; making a sun catcher mosaic using tissue paper, and colouring medieval illuminated manuscript letters to spell their name. There was also the opportunity to colour in the Cinque Port flag and the children were interested to see that it included the three lions and related it to the England football team.
We had families from France, Hackney, Surrey and Hornchurch on their holidays as well as a few locals, all who had seen the posters in the High Street and around the town.
It was a friendly and calm afternoon with children working carefully with the help of their parents and museum volunteers. It was lovely to chat to the children and their parents and to see that some of the adults were taking time to chat to each other too.
As the museum was open, we were also able to welcome others who just wanted a look round.
Thank you to Heather Stevenson who organised the event and for the the other volunteers who helped make it a very enjoyable and successful afternoon.
We are very grateful for the support of the Rye and Winchelsea Rotary Club.
