Last Saturday, Rye 1st XI’s dismal form continued as they lost to rivals Bexhill 1st XI by 8 wickets on an incredibly hot afternoon at the Rye Cricket Salts. Thankfully, Rye won the toss, and failed to take advantage as they were dismissed for 219 in 42.2 overs. Only Harry Smeed with 64 and Reuben Collingwood, 35, looked at ease. Rye lost their last 7 wickets for 40 runs. Equally, the bowling was poor and failed to apply any pressure as Thomas Nash 61, not out, Cameron Burgon, 49, and Malcolm Johnson, 61 not out, saw Bexhill past the target with 16 overs to spare. This Saturday, Rye travel to Portslade in search of a return to their early season form.

Rye 2nd XI lost by 3 wickets for the second week in a row. Batting first against promotion- chasing Polegate, Rye were dismissed for 163. Will Wheeler, 75, top scored as Ryan Hover took 5-35, to blow away the tail. In reply, Polegate went past the target in 28 overs but were 7 down. Aaron Smith, 57 not out, saw Polegate home, despite bowlers Freddie Mackenzie, 2-40, Ollie Rhys Jones, 2-37, and Tom O’Neill, 2-4, almost forcing the win. This Saturday, Rye host Division leaders, Hailsham 2nd XI, at the Salts in a match sponsored by the Mermaid Inn.

Rye 3rd XI continued their winning streak with a 3 wicket victory over Herstmonceux 3rds. Rye dismissed Herstmonceux for 153. Alex Stone 5-22 and David Jempson, 3-32, did the damage, as Graham Bennett, 93, led the opposition run tally. Rye were thankful to Callum Hadaway with 85 as Rye went past the target in the 21st over, 7 wickets down. This Saturday Rye 3rd X1 host Bexhill 4ths at Icklesham.
