Rye 1sts returned from Portslade last Saturday with all 30 points to end a run of defeats. Rye batted first and initially stumbled as they wobbled at 40-3. However Reuben Collingwood 53 played the anchor role as skipper Harry Smeed 51 off 32 balls and Luke Payton 72 off 70 balls saw Rye to 256 all out in the 45th over. It was a par score on a fast scoring ground.
Rye made intial in roads reducing Portslade to 18-2. Then Portslade managed to find a series of partnerships that edged them close to Rye’s total. Four batsmen made the 30s before being dismissed and it was the erosion of the innings with some good catches that saw Portslade dismissed for 221. Carl Mumba 3-40 was the most successful, but all 6 bowlers took wickets which was crucial.
This Saturday Rye 1sts host Crawley Eagles at The Salts., and will be seeking to make it conseutive wins.
Rye 2nds lost at home to Division Leaders Hailsham 2nds. Rye batted first and scored 179-9 off 40 overs. Ellis Hatter 41 not out and Ollie Rhys Jones 36 staged a late rally to get to the final score. Hailsham continued their fine form and raced past the target in 26 overs. The Rye bowlers unable to apply pressure. This Saturday Rye 2nds travel to play Eastbourne 3rds.
Rye 3rds lost at home to an experienced Bexhill 4ths Team. Bexhill scored 207 all out in 34 overs. Jeremy Wassell 52 and Steve Phillimore 75 the backbone of their innings. Wickets were shared 2apiece between Sam Fullman, Kris Morton, Toby Channon and Colin O’Neill. Rye’s reply was led by Grahame Burton 57, but only Johnny Broad 15 not out, Matthew Best 14 offered support, as Rye were dismissed for 142 in the 36th over. This Saturday Rye 3s travel to Ashburnham to play Keralaa Strikers 2nds.
