  1. I’m shocked at how sad I feel at the death of the Queen.
During the seventy years since Elizabeth became Queen, we have witnessed contemporary leaders failing and falling all around us at an unprecedented rate. Notions of duty, of promise-keeping, and of accountability to God can now seem antiquated and even naive. But Queen Elizabeth’s lifelong example of consistency in private faith and integrity in public service is both startling and inspiring. All my life she has been an example of respectability and decency, someone who helped our national identity in a positive way. Her commitment to service was absolute. The like of which we may never see again.

  2. I was lucky enough to witness the arrival of Queen Elizabeth with the Duke of Edinburgh at the Town Hall during their historic visit to Rye on 28th October 1966. I am sure there are many other readers of Rye News who remember that great day and who shared the excitement we all felt on this momentous occasion when our beloved Sovereign visited our precious town of Rye.

  3. I saw QE the following day, when she visited Hastings. Despite the warm welcome she and the Duke received it was a sombre time, the Aberfan disaster having happened only a few days previously. I believe she did go on to Wales to visit the scene and meet with the bereaved almost immediately after her Sussex visit, the first of many over the subsequent years. The two events remain inextricably linked in my memory.

  4. I was one of those who saw the queen on the 28th October when they went past the school in Ferry road, never forget, what annoyed me was the way ITV news coverage on the death of the queen also kept mentioned Harry and William and what they got up to ect ect !! No need for that at such a sad time.
