The 70th anniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) Day will be celebrated in Winchelsea with a firework display by the town’s Bonfire Boyes on Friday night (May 8) and a street party for members on Saturday lunchtime writes Richard Comotto. Winchelsea Bonfire Boyes have marked special events in the town for a number of years, including the millennium, royal jubilees and the two-minute silence on Remembrance Day. The beacon at Winchelsea is expected to be lit on Friday as well. Apparently nothing is happening in Rye.
