It might be autumn, but Rye Cricket Club has been busy. The Colts enjoyed a good season which was celebrated at the Ashford & District Junior Cricket League presentation evening. The Rye Under 11B team were presented with their division title, and Freddie Furnival received the batting award for most runs for the Under 11 League with Joseph Kemsley winning the U15 batting award for most runs.

The Colts section is currently running hard ball sessions on Thursday nights at Rye Sports Centre which are well attended. The club wishes to thank Rush,Witt & Wilson for their sponsorship of the Colts shirts.

The adults recently celebrated the performances and contributions to the club during 2022. A dinner was held at the Kings Head, the shirt sponsor for the adult League teams. A big thank you to them and for their sponsorship of the wicket covers.

The adult teams awards were:
1st XI captain’s player of the season: Ryan Dowdeswell
2nd XI captain’s player of the season: Kyle Scott
3rd XI captain’s player of the season: Colin O’Neill

Mike Thomas Trophy – U15 league player: Joseph Kemsley
Fullerton Cup – Under 21 league player: Luke Payton
Richard Merricks Trophy – club member of the year: James Jury

There were six players who received awards for scoring hundreds and five players for taking five wicket hauls. There is also a big thank you to all our sponsors, especially The Mahdi Spice for their sponsorship of the welcome gate to The Salts.

The club is now looking forward to the 2023 season, when the club will be celebrating its 270th season of cricket in Rye. There will be a cricket week in August, with fixtures against the MCC, Lydd – the first club Rye played against on the Salts in 1844 – and events for the juniors. A key feature will be the establishment of a girls section.

As ever, if you wish to be involved, please contact club secretary Martin Blincow via blincsfamily@aol.com.
