The Christmas in Rye festival is already looking to be a sell-out celebration this year. Thanks to the efforts of a small but very dedicated team, shouts out to Sophie Judge and Vickie Huxley for informing Rye News about the event. Brochures are already available, detailing the weekend of shopping, eating, drinking, performing and general family fun everyone can enjoy. The brochure provides a handy map detailing the participating traders and festive food and drink options available. It should be available in all participating shops and restaurants soon.
The weekend kicks off on Friday, December 2, with shops and restaurants planning to stay open late to welcome people. Many will be offering delicious, mulled wine, Christmas hobby-making, gifts and sweets.
Saturday promises to be full of activities. The high street will be closed to traffic from 9am to 6pm.  Planners are hoping that parking will be free in all public car parks. This will ensure families can safely wander and enjoy all the festivities at their leisure.
Early highlights include:
- Santa’s grotto in Rye Heritage Centre from 11am – 4:30pm on Saturday, December 3. More popular than Taylor Swift, these tickets are selling fast!
- “Dress up your pet” competition, with all entrants being given free treats
- Festive procession, beginning at Rope Walk, with performers and, we hope, a flying visit from Father Christmas and his elves
We will be posting more information through November about other highlights
