What a great year’s sailing Rye Harbour Sailability has had, all bar one day when the weather was unhelpful.

Last Saturday, October 29, the last sail of the season, saw ideal weather conditions making for a wonderful day’s sail with excellent company. A big thank you goes to the volunteers, sailors and Richard Hayden who was the senior instructor for the event, who all helped to make the day such a success. The team in the galley did a great job providing everyone with a lunch of baked potatoes with various fillings and splendid cakes too.

Bill Swan, one of the sailors, said: “A huge thank you to all the volunteers for yet another great sail on Saturday. I am so sorry that I had to cut and run so quickly, but a six-year old’s birthday was, apparently, pressing.”

Caroline Wylson commented: “A huge thank you from me too, as chair of the charity. Well done volunteer teams for all the time you have put into the sailing this year, not forgetting the shoreside team providing the important administration, great food and the organisation of raffles. Thank you to all our sailors for the lovely, heart-warming feedback that you have given us over the year.”

Rother District Council Community Grants have awarded the charity £8,875 towards a new dinghy, an RS Venture Connect, to replace a rather tired Sport 16 dinghy. Further aid has come from a grant of £2,500 from the Little Cheyne Court Wind Farm; £500 from Icklesham Parish Council; and our hard-working volunteers have been busy fundraising. Together with support from the local community and businesses we can now go ahead and place the order.
