In just over a year the A Rye Good Time app has become one of the top three town apps in the UK. It has been downloaded onto thousands of mobile phones and now includes an innovative audio walking tour of Rye. To celebrate a successful first year, Arabella Ansar, who’s led the development of the app, hosted a party to toast supporters and reveal her exciting plans.

“We are shaping a connected community that’s an easily accessible information hub for news, events, and experiences in Rye. It places everything you need in the palm of your hand,” Arabella told guests at the Ryebank Gallery, one of the app’s business sponsors along with Ethel Loves Me. “We’ve developed new technology and as a result we now have the Rye Information Point’s ‘Explore Rye’ audio tour. It’s the first of its kind anywhere on a town app, so again in Rye, we are leading the way.” Future developments include cycle tours in partnership with Rye Bay E-Bikes, ghost tours and more.

The app has been developed with support from local sponsors, Rother District Council and Visit 1066 Country. Councillor Kathy Harmer was keen to support the team behind the app. “What a great turn out. I had a fabulous time at Ryebank Gallery hearing about the progress and success of the A Rye Good Time town app and meeting the good folk of Rye. An amazing community coming together to promote this wonderful historic town!”

As well as thanking supporters, advertisers and contributors, Arabella is also encouraging more Rye businesses to join the app. “The challenge ahead is to build on the success of the first year by inspiring more businesses to subscribe, getting community groups comfortable with adding events to the calendar, and by increasing the number of downloads. Building this network can only benefit our lovely town and those who spend time here for business and leisure. I believe if businesses in Rye can become a unified presence on the app, then we’ll inspire the development of this resource across Sussex. I really appreciate all the support the town has given me and A Rye Good Time. Let’s collaborate and work together…and have #aryegoodtime!”
