Ukrainians around Rye

We are well over six months into the Homes for Ukraine scheme. Having lost some and gained some, seventeen families, mostly women and children, remain in homes across Rye and the surrounding district.

The local UA hub, formed by volunteers in March, continues to provide a first point of contact for the families and their generous hosts. It signposts issues to professionals in ESCC, Rother, Rother Voluntary Action, Rye Town Council and a number of charitable organisations.

Last Saturday morning we held the sixth networking event in the Rye Baptist church, courtesy of the Reverend Fiona Gill. In addition to the opportunity to meet others, there was knitwear, clothing, baked goods and lots of information on offer.

Against the background of greater uncertainty in Ukraine, some famies are making plans to return; some waiting for next spring. There are plenty of issues to be solved, concerning health, education, employment transport and immediate needs. All are being tackled and solved through the Rye Hub.

In the run up to Christmas there are lots of events in and around Rye, most are welcoming Ukrainian guests. If you are organising an event, please consider passing us the information so that we can let our people know.
